A pause can be small
Stillness does not have to mean a silent room or a long meditation. Sometimes it is the few seconds between finishing one task and starting another. You can let a small pause be enough.
Notice something outside yourself
If it feels comfortable, look around and choose one ordinary detail: the colour of a mug, a patch of daylight, or the shape of a leaf. There is no need to describe it beautifully. Just notice it for a moment, then continue.
Make one thing a little easier
Connection to yourself can be practical. Adjust the chair. Turn down the music. Step away from a screen. Ask for a little more time. A useful question is: What would make this moment slightly more comfortable?
Let breathing be ordinary
You do not need to change your breathing or close your eyes to pause. If focusing on your breath feels unpleasant, keep your attention on the room, a familiar object, or a simple activity instead. Choose what feels manageable.
Allow movement, too
Stillness is an invitation, not a test. You may prefer stretching, walking a short distance, or gently moving your hands. A pause can include movement and still offer a moment of attention.
Return without judging the moment
Perhaps you feel calmer afterwards; perhaps nothing changes. Neither outcome needs a verdict. These are optional everyday practices, not treatment or a replacement for support when you need it.
Begin with a conversation.
