Preparing for your first Reiki session
A few simple ways to make room for comfort, choice, and questions before you arrive.

Start with what matters to you
Preparing for a session does not need to become another task to do perfectly. You might simply ask yourself: What would help me feel comfortable? What would I like to know before I begin? You do not need a carefully formed intention.
Ask about the practical details
Confirm the session length, fee, location, accessibility, and cancellation policy before booking. If lying down is uncomfortable, ask about other positions or supports. Share only what is relevant to your comfort; you do not need to tell your full personal story.
Name your preferences
You might prefer no touch, less conversation, a different room temperature, or a moment to settle before starting. Ask about lighting, music, scent, and any sensory preferences that matter to you. These details can be discussed in advance.
Consent continues throughout
Agreeing to a session does not mean agreeing to everything that might happen. You can ask what the practitioner is doing, change your preference, decline touch, or stop. You do not need to justify a boundary.
Leave room afterwards
If your schedule allows, leave a little time before your next commitment. You might sit quietly, have a drink of water, or return to your day as usual. There is no required aftercare ritual and no need to interpret every sensation.
