A place to begin
Trying something unfamiliar can bring up plenty of questions. What will happen? Will I have to talk? Am I supposed to feel something? You do not need to arrive with certainty. Curiosity is enough to begin a conversation.
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese complementary practice often described as energy work. A session typically offers quiet time to rest while a practitioner places their hands lightly on or above the body, with your consent. Some people understand the practice spiritually; others approach it as an opportunity for stillness.
Your experience does not need to look a certain way
You may notice warmth, thoughts, restlessness, or very little at all. There is no sensation you need to produce, and a particular feeling is not proof that a session has worked. You are welcome to describe your experience in your own words, including uncertainty.
Questions are welcome
Before deciding, ask about the practitioner’s training, approach, fees, session length, and consent practices. Ask whether touch is optional and how to request a pause. A clear conversation gives you information to decide whether the setting feels right for you.
Keep expectations grounded
Reiki is a complementary wellness practice. It does not diagnose or treat medical or mental health conditions and should not replace professional care. You can explore a practice without needing it to explain or solve everything.
Begin with a conversation.
